The International Seminar on Sino–South Asia Development and Cooperation, organized by the Osmani Centre for Peace and Security Studies
(OCPASS) under the Dhaka Initiative and co-hosted by Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies BIISS, marked a significant milestone in regional strategic engagement. With Shanghai Institutes for International Studies
SIIS (China) joining as a core partner, alongside distinguished participation from Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Afghanistan, the seminar created a rare and meaningful convergence of perspectives.

At its core, the seminar advanced a forward-looking vision: translating regional security and stability in the Indian Ocean and South Asia into sustainable economic emancipation for the people of the region. Through structured deliberations on geopolitics, non-traditional security challenges, economic and trade integration, climate cooperation, and people-to-people exchange, the discussions reflected a clear recognition that development, stability, and cooperation are inseparable. What made this engagement particularly noteworthy was its strategic coherence.

The Dhaka Initiative, as articulated through this seminar, did not merely provide a platform for dialogue—it forged a new synergy between Sino–South Asian strategic thinking, opened practical pathways for cooperation, and laid the groundwork for sustained institutional and policy-level engagement going forward.

The seminar positioned Dhaka as a credible convening hub for constructive regional dialogue. This initiative has undoubtedly opened a doorway toward exploring new possibilities for cooperation, trust-building, and shared prosperity across South Asia and beyond.
Looking ahead, the momentum generated here signals the beginning of a longer journey—one that holds promise for deeper collaboration and a more stable, economically empowered region.
